Abstract

Effective irrigation is essential for optimal root canal debridement, and activation systems such as ultrasonic, sonic, and laser-assisted techniques enhance irrigant penetration through acoustic streaming. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) provides a powerful tool to analyze and visualize the complex fluid flow patterns generated by these systems, offering insights into velocity distribution, shear stress, and irrigant exchange within the root canal. This study evaluates the acoustic streaming patterns produced by different irrigation activation systems using CFD simulations, highlighting the influence of tip design, frequency, amplitude, and canal morphology on fluid dynamics. Understanding these patterns is critical for optimizing irrigation protocols, improving smear layer removal, and enhancing clinical outcomes in endodontic treatment.
